Dr. Heather Prather

Orthodontist

Dr. Heather Prather is a board-certified orthodontist (American Board of Orthodontics) who sees patients at the Hampton and Yorktown offices. She earned her D.D.S. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, then completed the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program in San Antonio, Texas, and an M.S. in Oral Biology from the Uniformed Services University. She served 13 years in the U.S. Air Force across seven duty locations — her favorite was Guam — and received the Meritorious Service Medal. A mom of three boys, she spends evenings and weekends cheering at their games, and brings the same warm, family-first approach to her patients.

What Dr. Prather focuses on

Dr. Prather treats children, teens and adults at our Hampton and Yorktown offices, with braces and Invisalign® clear aligners, including Invisalign for adults who want treatment that’s hard to notice.

She also treats complex bites. When a bite can’t be corrected with braces alone, she plans the orthodontic side of jaw surgery with the patient’s oral and maxillofacial surgeon, who performs the surgery.

Care for military families

After 13 years in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Prather knows what military life means for orthodontic treatment: deployments, training, and permanent change-of-station (PCS) moves. She plans treatment around them, works with TRICARE Dental Program benefits, and helps families who transfer in mid-treatment or need their records sent on when they move.

Warm, family-first and precise

Dr. Prather treats every patient the way she would want her own three boys treated, and she explains each step to both parents and kids. As a board-certified orthodontist (American Board of Orthodontics), she holds her work to the board’s standards for detail and finish.

Professional memberships

She is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association.
