Dr. Ravish Sharma

Orthodontist

Dr. Ravish Sharma is an orthodontist at Behl Orthodontics, seeing patients at the Chesapeake and Suffolk offices. He trained in orthodontics in two countries: a Master of Dental Surgery in orthodontics in India, followed by a fellowship, an orthodontic residency and a Master of Dental Science at the University of Connecticut. He has co-authored peer-reviewed research in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, including a study of Invisalign® treatment outcomes. Dr. Sharma treats children, teens and adults with braces and clear aligners, and his training includes temporary anchorage devices (TADs) and surgical orthodontics, including cleft and craniofacial care. Every plan starts from current research and a careful look at how the teeth and jaws work together, explained in plain language before you decide.

What Dr. Sharma focuses on

Dr. Sharma treats children, teens and adults at our Chesapeake and Suffolk offices, with braces and Invisalign® clear aligners. His research on Invisalign treatment, published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, informs how he plans aligner cases.

His training includes temporary anchorage devices (TADs): small, temporary mini-screws that give the orthodontist a fixed point to move teeth that would otherwise be hard to move. It also includes surgical orthodontics and cleft and craniofacial care, planned together with the patient’s surgeon and care team.

For children, he follows the American Association of Orthodontists’ advice of a first check-up by about age 7, and recommends early treatment only when it will help.

Evidence-based, and calm

Dr. Sharma bases every plan on current research and a careful look at how the teeth and jaws work together. He takes the time to explain it in plain language and to put children and nervous patients at ease, so nobody feels rushed into a decision.

Professional memberships

He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association.
