It’s not too late
Adults can have orthodontic treatment at any age, as long as their teeth and gums are healthy. Common reasons include crowding that has come back after childhood braces, spacing, a bite that causes wear or discomfort, and preparing the teeth for other dental work.
Your first visit is a free consultation. The orthodontist examines your teeth, bite and gums, and you get your options, the expected length of treatment and the full fee in writing before you decide.
Treatment that fits adult life
Most of our adult patients choose Invisalign® clear aligners or clear (ceramic) braces, because both are hard to notice at work. Aligners come out to eat and for important meetings or photos; clear braces stay on and work without having to remember to wear them. Metal braces and lingual braces (behind the teeth, on request) are also available.
Most comprehensive treatment takes about 18 to 24 months; your plan may differ. Visits are usually every 6 to 8 weeks for braces and every 8 to 12 weeks for aligners, at any of our seven offices.
Working with your dentist and surgeon
When other dental work is part of the plan, such as crowns, implants or gum care, we coordinate with your general dentist so each step happens in the right order.
Some adults need jaw surgery to correct a bite that braces alone can’t fix. In those cases we plan the braces with your oral and maxillofacial surgeon, who performs the surgery.
Cost, insurance and payment
Many dental plans limit orthodontic benefits to children, but some include adults, so check yours or let our team check it for you. You can pay with FSA or HSA funds, and monthly payment plans are available through OrthoFi.
