Orthodontics with TRICARE
Yes, we take TRICARE. Behl Orthodontics is in network with the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) and with FEDVIP dental plans for military retirees, for orthodontics where your plan includes it, at all seven of our Hampton Roads offices.
How the TRICARE Dental Program covers orthodontics
According to United Concordia, which runs the TDP, the plan pays 50 percent of its allowed amount for orthodontic treatment, up to a lifetime orthodontic maximum of $1,750 per person.
There are age limits: children up to age 21 (or 23 if a full-time student), spouses up to age 23, and National Guard and Reserve sponsors up to age 23. Your part is the remaining cost share plus anything above the lifetime maximum.
TRICARE rules change from time to time, so we confirm your current benefit before you start.
Military retirees: FEDVIP
Retirees and their families get dental coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) rather than the TDP. Orthodontic coverage, age limits and maximums vary by FEDVIP plan, so bring your plan details and we’ll check them for you.
How our team helps with TRICARE
We check your orthodontic benefit before you start, at no charge, and file your claims for you. If your child is covered by two plans, for example the TDP and a spouse’s employer plan, we coordinate both benefits.
With a typical comprehensive fee of $5,500 to $7,500 for children and teens, the TDP benefit of up to $1,750 makes a real difference. Monthly payment plans through OrthoFi can cover the rest; the braces cost page explains the terms with worked examples.
If you get orders mid-treatment
Tell us as soon as you know. We can help you plan the next steps and send your records to your new orthodontist. Moving here mid-treatment? We also welcome transfer patients who started treatment elsewhere.
