Cost & financing
How much do braces cost?
The cost of braces depends on what needs correcting and how long treatment takes. Every patient gets the full fee in writing at the free consultation, before any decision.
What affects the cost of braces
- Complexity: Mild crowding takes less time and fewer visits than a significant bite correction.
- Type of braces: Metal braces usually cost less than clear or lingual braces.
- Length of treatment: Longer or two-phase treatment affects the total.
- Your insurance: An orthodontic benefit can lower what you pay out of pocket.
What the fee should include
When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: records, adjustment visits, repair visits and retainers. A lower quote that leaves these out can cost more in the end.
Ways to pay
Monthly payment plans, FSA and HSA funds, and insurance can all be combined. Your options are explained in writing at your consultation.

How insurance lowers the cost
Most orthodontic benefits pay a percentage of the fee up to a lifetime maximum: a set amount per person that is used once. Many plans also have age limits or waiting periods, so check yours before you start, or let our team check it for you.
For military families, the TRICARE Dental Program pays 50 percent of its allowed amount for orthodontics, up to a $1,750 lifetime maximum per person, within the plan’s age limits. We are in network with the TRICARE Dental Program and FEDVIP, and we work with most PPO plans. You can also pay with FSA or HSA funds.
How long treatment takes
Most comprehensive treatment takes about 18 to 24 months, and early (Phase 1) treatment about 12 to 18 months. Your orthodontist gives you your own estimate at the consultation, and your plan may differ. Adjustment visits are usually every 6 to 8 weeks for braces and every 8 to 12 weeks for aligners.
